Heaton Gap to Teralba Station (GNW)

New South Wales

This section of the Great North Walk starts from Heaton Gap near the Watagan Forest Motel, and winds east, towards Newcastle. The walk passes through the Awaba State Forest and past the Sugarloaf range, down into Wakefield and on to Teralba, a pleasant town on the edge of Lake Macquarie. Accommodation is available at both ends of this day walk.

Getting there

Start Watagan Forest Motel (there's also a BP Station here), 1549 Branxton-Toronto Rd, Brunkerville.  Only accessible by car, no public transport directly to start point.  For those still wanting to do this walk without your own transport you can take the train to Awaba Station and get a taxi (Central Coast Taxis) to the motel, it's a 10 - 15 minute drive.

Comments

Unless you are doing the Great North Walk I would skip this one. Too many junctions without GNW signage. The last third of the walk is spent walking along the roadside. Also note the time for this walk is very overestimated. I went the wrong way for 2km (due to the signage) and still completed it within 4 hours.
