Goulburn River National Park

New South Wales

No defined track. Bushwaking along the ridge and banks of the river. Found aboriginal art. Fairly rough bush to push through.

Getting there

Drive 45km east of Mudgee. About 20km of dirt. Accessible in convential car in dry weather.

Route/Trail notes

Walk along the river, crossed it a couple of times. No defined trails, so pushed our way through the bush. Fairly rough going at times. Found aborinal rock art (hand painting only) in one of the many caves. Water shallow, fresh, drinkable and teeming with catchable size fish.  Next time will take sandals for river crossings and fishing rods! Huge amount of birdlife and wallabies. Platypus known to be there but sadly didn't see any! Car-based camping beside the river. Beautiful area.

Permits/Costs

No cost to camp.
