Cougal Cascades to Boyd’s Butt and Mt Cougal loop (Springbrook National Park)
27 Jun, 2021
Hard
14.5km return
6 hrs
Challenging trail with good views. Went up to Cougal East and back the same way.
Have uploaded the .gpx (one way and back to the saddle where I lost the trail...). Seems one way 3.8km, it took me about 4 hrs return with a swim at the end.
Start (after coming back down it was easy to find) is about 150m past sawmill at the left tributary that has got a swimming hole in sight (30m from creek). Cross this hole to the left and continue mid with few markers found within 25m. Soon distinct ridge path is formed. Easy to follow to Butte top, have accessed 2 of its few peaks. Then followed the Ridge line towards Cougals. After a short time it flattens out and becomes harder to follow also due to vines and fallen trees. In about 15mins starts to rise quickly, well marked from there. Pay attention to last marker where it joins the border track just below the peak, it is easy to miss this turn when coming back down.
Great views from the both Butte and Cougal peaks!

In total about 4hrs with a swim at bottom. Will come back to explore Butte more.
Cedar Creek - Black Creek (South East Queensland)
13 Jan, 2019
Hard
18km
6 hrs
I did only half of the described walk (instead of up Black and down Cedar I went up Cedar and came back via Love Creek)... love this area and enjoyed the walk and swimming holes greatly.
I just wanted to comment on some possible confusion here. Looking at the google maps this seems largely inaccurate. I am using an app called Navigator Pro and have to say I was amazed by its accuracy and overall smooth experience. Anyway back to the hike.
The 2nd creek in original description (down leg of the trip, 'starting' at Greenes Falls ) is Cedar Creek, not Love Creek.
Going up from the Cedar Creek swimming hole (giant rocky stairs going up next to the falls) on the left is Black Creek and after left turn bend you pass large house (seems private resort) partly hiding in the trees on the right. Follow further to the junction of Cedar Creek (left looking upstream) and Love Creek (right with small waterfall). The CC falls, the resort are about 1/3 and 2/3 of the distance to this junction. For Love Falls follow Love Creek, not far from the junction.
On the top both Black Creek and Cedar Creek track lead to Browns Road (from opposite sides).
The track following the Love Creek down starts from the very end of Alex Road, it continues roughly in the direction of the road, for the first 150m it is barely visible but follows the gentle ridge until it gets to the junction of 2 small streams.
Mount Superbus (Main Range National Park)
17 Sep, 2017
Hard
10km return
3 hrs
Walked with friends from Teviot Gap to Lizard Point, 7.5 hrs return incl Mt Superbus, dry conditions.
Good workout, loose dirt in some steep climbs. Very enjoyable top part from the saddle to Lizard Point - cool microclimate.
Mostly well signed with pink ribbons, just one spot where we lost the track... shortly after start, when passed wooden bridge and obsolete metal gate. Note for future trip: look to the left and follow closer to the private property fence. From the corner of the private property the track becomes very obvious.
Mt Beerwah East Face (Glass House Mountains National Park)
10 Oct, 2014
Very Hard
3km return
5 hrs
Good climb, happy to find another route to Mt Beerwah when Summit walk stays closed.
The path leading into the bush starts from main road, about 80m back from the carpark entry but not well visible from the road. Once found, it is easy to follow.
We found the spot where tracks goes left (Caves) ridge or right ridge (just above the organ pipes), it is below the summit wall few minutes above steeper part of the climb (wedging crack etc). I'll try to post a photo...
Thanks
