Easy trail. Wide padded walk, lots of fire roads and 4x4 intersections.
Well marked out. Good view of Somerset.
Easy one of the kids if they can manage the distance.

Beautiful scenery and multiple waterfalls! Easy hike, just long. But with food breaks and always looking for those photo opportunities you don’t realise how long the trek is and it’s a well padded path of beautiful greenery and cascading water.

Certainly a photographers dream spot.

Mount Gravatt Summit Track (Brisbane City Council Local Walks)

I do this track often as my local.
I take the dog for a walk around to and also wore my weight vest the other day while training on it.

It can be a 3k Loop when you add the federation track to the loop.
One steep fire trail gets the legs burning and one section with some loose rocks that can catch you out on the descend.

Easy peasy, family friendly. The top lets you view our lovely city.
Mt Barney - East Peak - South Ridge (Mt Barney National Park)

Well, this was quiet the hike. Might I say, take loads of water as 4Litres was still not enough even on a day where we could have been rained on. The east peak is steep and dangerous rock ledges all around but a quicker way up to the summit.

I hiked with a group of about 8 in varying fitness levels but we all made it together. The ascend had my legs burning at times and tests muscular endurance but as always the descend although quicker made my knee joints ache from the constant time under tension.

We got thrown off with trying to find the south ridge track as we lost sight of the West peak which is crucial in navigating this trail. We bush bashed a little but could tell from the vegetation that we veered to far left. 30minutes later we found the track to everyones relief. It could have been a hike gone bad as the weather was threatening to rain but we all pushed on and succeeded in a joint team effort.

The hike is as it states, 9 hours if you don't allow for much stopping and resting time and are able to navigate without getting lost. Do have your wits about you, as people do get caught out on this mountain, take plenty of water, ration your food incase and be cautious with both climbing and descending as its forest areas are slippery.

I would not advise to do on a hot day as water is essential although you can fill up in the streams at the top and around Rum Jungle. Be sure to pack a space blanket incase you get stuck out for the night!

What a challenge it was, physically it was demanding, mentally I felt totally fine. But better preparation next time will make for more comfort.

The next time I attempt this, I will go with people of the same fitness level, as the constant stopping/starting does wear down on your muscles and mentally makes you think of the aches and thats when it becomes tolling.
Mount Beerwah Summit (Glass House Mountains National Park)

So this mountain. What can I say. WOW.
It got me mentally, I was drained, I found it challenging on all levels.
1 because i was stupid and hit the gym the day before; 2 because I can't reach some of the holds.

I done this barefoot with others, it was slightly slippery to and i would not advise anyone to do this whom is scared of heights or faint hearted. However myself, being rather brave, this had me at moments where I felt anxiety and knew I needed to draw some focus and preserver.

It is doable, but challenging. I am by no means short, but I did need assistance for some pull ups in sections where my body was just not able to generate enough force or pull and the only way is up!

The bat cave area where the rock formations are an awesome sight, but the initial rock scramble/Climb is certainly confronting and challenged one of the guys as he took 40mins to get past one section.

I found myself scrambling laterally from point to point at a time where i tried to find some better grips, but still struggled with some reaches.

This hike is best attempted on dry days, wearing gloves and also I done it shoeless as i could not get my feet positioned correctly with shoes on.

If you get momentum going I'm sure you can climb up like a goat as I saw one of the boys, but mentally this mountain was tolling for me.

I personally am in no hurry to get back to it until i have some confidence in proper rock climbing but i will give it a crack later in the year once more.

All i can say when i look at it and thought about it is... WTF was i thinking.
I am yet to to Tibro, but after doing Beerwah I feel anything is possible, since then Mt. Barney was a easier for me.

But mentally Beerwah got me something good. I will be back BEERWAH!
Mt Cooroora (Sunshine Coast)

This was awesome, a well preserved mountain, frequented by the locals. I went up this with a friend and a little group of 10 year olds were on a bonding session from their football club with all the dads and peers.

I would have to say a favourite mountain so far, beautiful 360 views all around, we had great weather, although a little hot. This hike has some steep steps but some chain to help in sections. Can get on all fours and use your hands. I found it a welcoming challenge but no soreness after.

It would have been nice to have the mountain to ourselves but it just shows how popular a climb it is and why they choose it to be KING OF THE MOUNTAIN.

Very cool and looking forward to going back again soon.

First big serious hike for me personally. Was a great way to break into such a fun activity. Loved the rock face to climb towards the summit, that made my eyes light up and was awesome. Our view was a white out, but I will happily do this hike again in future.

I didn't realise I had done this hike years ago until I was halfway up.
Easy as climb, great little training ground for anyone to use. A busy track as frequented by trail runners and I would recommend this for any family adventure to get the kids outdoors.

Its short and sweet and a safe hike for all ages.
