| The whole Palmerston/Doongan area of Wooronooran is probably my most favourite place in the world... Camping here is amazing - quiet and out of the way even though it is on a highway. The wildlife in this area is astounding! We stayed for 2 nights and both nights were enchanted by the light show of thousands of fireflies dancing through the whole night. The twilight call of the green grocer cicadas is amazing, but deafening! We did most of the trails here - and along our way were met with ulysses butterflies, day moths, the rare french's longicorn, red bellied black snakes, insects so numerous and beautiful - and had a scary, but very special, run in with a young, shaggy cassowary and its parents who made a thundering ruckus wanting nothing more than to get out of our way. So be very wary of cassowaries!! The surrounding towns are charming and the people friendly and fun - its well worth a visit!! |
