Route/Trail notes
Follow the path for Gwongoorool Pool and after about 100m from the junction with Illinbah Circuit, look for an old footpath on your left through a small gully. Keep following this gully in a south easterly direction, the path fades and comes back depending on its usage. after about 1km you reach a remarkable strangler fig, you can either bash through the scunge or follow a trail high on the bank. Long pants and gloves are a pretty good idea! Cross over a dry gully and follow down a steep bank to the river. I marked this point and the strangler fig which I then removed on the way out, this been the only navigational difficulty I faced. I then rock hopped crossing the river at frequent intervals heading upstream to the Gorge. After passing a landslip and a narrowing of the gorge there was a 3-4m cascade that was easiest climbed on the right. After this the falls were about 30min ahead. The return trip simply retraces your steps. I found that it took 4 and half hrs there and 3 and half back. he hike up from Gwongoorool pool was very tiring.

Walked the gorge after alot of rain, while the creek was down the rocks are super slippery which made hopping EXTREMELY difficult and added another 1.5 hours to the track notes by J&L Daly. Beware snakes are very prevalent and if rock hopping could be easily stood on. The Strangler Fig mentioned by Daly I found hard to distinguish and almost missed the Gwongoolrool Pool track. Very worthwhile hike.Laurence Hallam on 27 Jun, 2010
A hard footslog, I would not recommend this walk after rain or even if there is a hint of rain in the offering! But well worth the effort.
