Route/Trail notes

From the trail head opposite Diamantina Hut follow the ridge a high or low route can be taken around the first knoll at the head of the Bon Accord Spur both routes meet up on the otherside heading into the saddle named the big dipper. The trail will then follow the ridge on or just below the ridge till the trail junction just below Little Mount Feathertop. The trail left leads to Federation Hut and the Bungalow Spur, the trail straight ahead Little Mount Feathertop which offers a great view of Mount Feathertop and the right hand trail leads onto the summit of Mount Feathertop. The trail then begins to climb Mount Feathertop ignore the signed turn off to the Tom Kneen Track this leads to a spring, the Melbourne University Mountain Club (MUMC) Hut and the North West Spur and continue up to the summit along the narrow and exposed ridge line. Once the summit is reached retrace your steps back along the Razorback Ridge.

The whole ridge will be coverd in snow during winter, and I advise not to tackle it from June - October if not experienced. Massive cornices appear on the ridge and avalanches are a daily occurence, the ridge is exposed and takes the full blast of wind, come prepared.

Did the return hike from hotham to Mt.Feathertop following the Razorback ridge. in one long day with my mum and a friend. Was a bit cloudy which spoiled the views a bit. Was cool to see the mountains in summer conditions - usually come here skiing. The snow gums are just beautiful. Path is well marked, some sections have steps.
