Wulkaraka to Fernvale - Part of BVRT

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

I rode this but you are certainly allowed to walk it. A fun and enjoyable ride from Wulkaraka station to Fernvale. Look forward to a delicious thick shake and a pie at the renowned Fernvale bakery! The track is mostly flat and easy to follow. A couple of road crossings.

I don't have access to a car shuttle at the moment so I have taken 3 weekends to walk from Wulkuraka to Fernvale doing up and back in sections. Section 1 was from the train station at Wulkuraka to Muirlea station sign about 10km return. Section 2 from the Muirlea station sign to Borallon Station Road and then from Borallon Station Road up to Fernvale. The last section was the prettiest with lots of flowering grass and beautiful countryside. Definitely would be very hot in summer.

Not the normal type of walk I do, but did this as part of Resilience Training with a work group carrying a heavy weight on a stretcher. Quite an easy walk otherwise following the old Brisbane Valley Railway track. I can definitely see the attraction for Mountain Bikers. Only did the section from Brassall bikeway on Diamantina Blvd so just over 18KM.

Day 1 of 8 with 19kg on my back for my solo attack on the entire BVRT.
Perfect time of year to attempt this walk, i wouldn't want to try it much later in the year

We walked the trail from Wulkuraka Station to Fernvale, stopped for a pie from the bakery, picked up some free chillies from a property & walked back. My Garmin clocked 41km return. Nice scenery of neighbouring properties & hobby farms. Saw lots of animals. Track is clearly signed & well-worn. Lovely Winter’s day - would be a killer in Summer as a lot of the track is exposed.

A great fun ride. Highly recommended. I wish I had done it in winter as it was very hot and sweaty!
