Mt Tibrogargan

Sunshine Coast

We only made it half way up this mountain as we had our three young children with us.I question myself as to whether I could conquer this on my own one day, mainly due to the fear of climbing an almost completely vertical rock face with no protection from the elements..

very hard

The first bit is hardest but becomes progressively easy as you ascend, would not recommend it if you are not fit, involves lots of scrambling rather than hiking after the initial walk up to the point where the main ascent starts, challenge well worth in terms of physical although the view at the top whilst nice isn't a wow, still is a reward when u reach the top. Best done early morning, make sure to give warning to climbers below if you dislodge any rocks, do not attempt when it's wet/raining. As always, carry water.

Phew, what a rock....Mt. Tibogargan! For our little group of three fellas, first time. Looked abit daunting, especially to me, being more of the hiker. It was a great ascent, Plan, look footholds. Heaps of social, for chats, share experience. Even a kid of twelve, remarked up the top...Helmet, hydro(water pack) long pants....cool bro, gave me five, with him bare foot, shorts and t-shirt...That's my Aussie compatriots! Sat on ledge enjoying the views, blue skies, Sunny as! Trip down, could have been difficult, if not for abit of advice, then eyes on the job, one step at a time, boots and hands lodged...very interesting. Many groups, all up say 100 plus coming up. On my way down, dislodged, a rock about 25mm, yelled heaps loud, my son, 20 meters below swerved, and avoided, woman, ducked! I think the importance of having protection, and safety for all. As it says down the bottom, rocks will be dislodged, be mindful, and observant!
listen out! Everyone, were friendly, chatty amongst groups, doing a chosen goal. Great Mountain, good testy one. Will do again one day.
Have fun.

Part hike, part free rock climb. Definitely had to push through fear of heights.

Done the walk heaps of times. Always fun. Nice quick climb that will still challenge you.

Great morning, TIP: get there early as on the way was getting busy and bottleneck at chicken rock. Great views at the top well worth it.

Great climb, i thoroughly enjoyed it! There were enough foot and hand holds to make the scramble fairly straight forward if you look up and plan ahead. Made the return trip in 1hr 15minutes (including 15 minutes at the top to take pictures) I ached the next day so would probably take it a little slower next time haha

This is a favourite 'go to' walk from my house :)

Wouldn't class this as very hard but certainly isn't for the faint hearted! The first bit is hardest but the views are very much worth it. Spent way too long at the summit and ended up climbing down in the dark. Bring insect repellent!

Was quite an exciting climb, enjoyed the challenge.

OMG how good is this mountain!!! a few moments where it is a little intimidating, and I definitely would not do it if you are not at least relatively fit... But wow... well worth it.

Have completed this walk many times, and I can't agree with the Very Hard rating or the 3.5 hour estimated time.. But is a great walk for beginner rock scramblers!

Challenging climb. Found it quite rewarding reaching rhe summit

Harder than I thought it would be, but a good intro to climbing. Great views.

Best done in the early morning as the path is completely in the shade. Fun climb and good views. For the uninitiated the pleasing thing about Mt Tibrogargan is that it becomes progressively easy as you ascend; the three toughest parts are all in the bottom tiers, giving inexperienced climbers an idea as to how their abilities shape up and allowing an early opt-out.

Do not do in the rain, simply not worth it, and make certain to give warning to climbers below if you dislodge any stones on the path.

Typically takes me around 47 minutes non-stop from the wooden-decked lookout at the start of the access path, to the cliff-top beyond the summit, and back to the wooden-decked lookout again, but I climb the mountain frequently.
