Comments

Ascended via the South East Ridge and descended via the South. One of the most spectacular hikes I’ve done. The hike was a good mix of undulated track, ridges, saddles and steep rock scrambles.

Although a relatively experienced/fit hiker I was almost scared off by the comments about needing ropes to summit, especially given it was an overcast spitting day. Turns out we had nothing to worry about though… the hike wasn’t too strenuous and there were definitely no ropes required. If you have had experience doing rock scrambling hikes before and have done Mt Maroon I think you’ll be fine. It’s nothing like Beerwah or Giraween Pyramid rock scramble steep! Took us about 7hrs up and down with plenty of breaks.

Hardest hike I've ever done. Left yellow pinch car park at 5.45pm and got back to car. 11 hours later. We covered 17klms of some pretty tough terrain. Fantastic views of the scenic rim all the way up and down especially of Mt Lindsay and Mt Ernest. Some very steep and challenging sections going up and many sections when your literally on the edge of huge drops. Coming down is also challenging and spent a fair bit of it on my bum. Awesome views at the top when we finally got there. A bit deceiving in places as you think your almost there when your not. Glad I've finally done it and had the best day doing it. The weather was for us perfect all day. Definitely wouldn't want to going up or down in rain or strong winds. Pays to have Sat navigation.

This was my first hike and it was worth it for the view but oh boy was it exhausting. I went with a mate who had some limited bushwalking experience but both of us were pretty new to it.

Regardless, both of us had no trouble on the way up, never lost the trail and I only really started to tire near the top. There was a fair bit of scrambling and a tiny bit of climbing with a couple small rope sections but nothing too difficult.

On the way down I got very exhausted, ran out of water despite packing 4L and we lost the trail and had to backtrack about 4 times which didn't help things.

Timeframe:
Started at 0740 from Yellowpinch carpark
Summit at 1150 - 1220 (had lunch)
Finished at carpark 1630

Would recommend ascend SE ridge but come down S ridge (apparently it's easier). Also bring plenty of water!

Tough but very rewarding.
