Trachyte and Tibrogargan Circuit

Glass House Mountains National Park

A nice, easy walk with nothing too strenuous. Leading from the car park, begin the Tibrogargan Circuit. At the first fork take a right (sign post and map at the fork). The circuit winds through open eucalypti, casuarina and native flora alongside Mount Tibrogargan and Mount Tibberoowuccum. Signage along the track provide information about the area's flora and fauna. The trail then ascends to the Jack Ferris lookout which is atop Trachyte Ridge and affords walkers a panoramic view of surrounding peaks and pine forest plantation. Interestingly, the Glasshouse Mountains themselves are volcanic plugs formed largely of rhyolite and trachyte which remain after the surrounding sandstone eroded over 25 million years.

Getting there

From Steve Irwin Way, take a left onto Barrs Road, which is approximately 3 kilometers past the Mathew Flinders Park. There are two car parks in the area and both are on the left-hand side of the road. The first is for the car park is for the Tibrogargan Circuit. The second is for the Trachyte Circuit and is the closest to the trailhead.

With the recent rain, everything was green and the creek full and flowing. Lovely.

did this one yesterday....clocked it at 6.6klm including the small detour to the Jack Ferris lookout....trail is in good condition, well signposted...overall an easy walk...mostly dense forest, toilets are at the carpark, gpx and directions here are accurate...very enjoyable and not sure why it isnt as popular as some of the others on the sunshine coast...
