Rainforest Circuit

Ravensbourne National Park

A beautiful loop track through lush rainforest vegetation and blue gums in Ravensbourne National Park. This is a great place to hunt for fungi after rain, and has evidence of indigenous yam diggings.

Officially listed as Grade 3/Medium difficulty (includes uneven surfaces and a few steep flights of stairs), this track is suitable for walkers with a reasonable fitness level.

Route/Trail notes

Starting from the Blackbean Day Use Area, find the trail to the left of the toilet block. At the first signed intersection, turn right to complete the walk in an anti-clockwise direction (clockwise has more uphill stairs).

There is one small creek crossing that is usually dry but may be slippery after rain.

Beautiful lush rainforest walk.

Beautiful walk, as always. Love the lush greens, huge trees and quietness of this walk.

Completed the buaraba track today and all side tracks. The creek was only just a trickle and the walk back up was hot so would recommend completing the walk earlier in the day. It was a lovely walk and the Gas Beutel lookout is a beautiful place to stop and have a picnic.

There are some gorgeous blue gums in this area. It makes you wonder what the rest of the country would have looked like if it hadn't been logged.

Ravensbourne National Park is situated on a spur of The Great Dividing Range between Esk and Toowoomba.

You will find a few short hikes at the Blackbean Day Use Area.
There is plenty of parking with a beautiful green grassed picnic area and pit toilets that are very well maintained.

Today I put all of these walks together making it into a circuit. I started with the Rainforest Circuit, Palm Creek Circuit, Sandstone Overhang, Buaraba Creek and then back to the picnic area. All up, just over 8km 🥾

This is a very easy hike with some stairs thrown in and a gradual up hill hike from Buaraba Creek back to the picnic area. This is totally up to you if you want to push yourself and get the heart pumping and the leg burn working 🏃‍♀️

You will hike through some lush rainforest, palm grove's, some pretty cool sand overhangs, eucalypt forest and a spring fed creek that doesn't have a lot of water but still a nice place to sit and take in the tranquillity of the sound's of the rainforest 🌿🍃 🦜

Why not head just up the road when you are done to Beutel Lookout for a bbq or picnic or head to a little local coffee shop and enjoy what they have on offer ☕

Enjoy 🙏💕

Completed this one with the Buaraba Creek Trail, Sandstone Overhang & Palm Creek Circuit. Ended up being 8.5km in total. A lovely place to hike & a good track.

Pleasant walk for our 2 and 4 year old kids. Some handholding on the steps, but no big deal.

Took the tip to do the walk in an anti-clockwise direction then went on to the Palm Creek circuit out to the Sandstone overhang, back along the same track to the other part of the Palm Creek circuit to Buaraba creek, back to the Palm Creek circuit and finally the rest of the Rainforest circuit to make one big walk. The cool rainforest made this an enjoyable walk on a hot day.

Beautiful rain forest type environment. I combined it with the other walks in the park and had difficulties completing them all.

This is a really beautiful bit of rainforest and a good walk. We did the rainforest circuit and then the palm circuit, both were lovely but the rainforest circuit had more atmosphere and some really great old giant trees. The Rainforest has some stairs but is definitely easier than the Palm circuit.

We walked this track on our way back from Buaraba Creek. It would have been easier to walk in the other direction due to the stairs. If you're fit it wouldn't be a problem though.
