Pages Pinnacle is a 400m high tertiary rhyolite volcanic plug on a ridge between Springbrook and the Numinbah Valley. It is located above the Nerang River within the Numinbah State Forest. The Yugambeh people called the pinnacle kundohikulli meaning rock shaped boat. The pinnacle, similar to other ancient volcanic landmarks in the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales hinterlands, is an acid volcanic rock containing at least 66% silica. The view at the top of the Pages Pinnacle overlooks Hinze Dam.

Route/Trail notes

From the carpark, walk around the gate on the right and follow the fire trail. When you come to the first junction turn right. Then turn right again at the next junction, then left. You should be walking uphill for quite some time. When you see the pinnacle on your left, look for a small cairn near a large gum tree. The gum tree has 'PP' carved into it (DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE MARKINGS IN THE TREE) (ALSO NOTE there is a tree earlier on that also says 'PP' and 'NO PP - EXIT ONLY', this track goes to the base of the ridge, do not take this track). This is where you turn left to follow the track up to the ridge all the way to the pinnacle. The walk is quite steep and you my be walking with your head down so it is quite easy to walk past the tree so remember to look up occasionally.

I did this climb on a hot, dry, 33 degree day. The fire trail is tough but it's worth it - don't give up!
I made the mistake of turning onto the first track that goes to the bottom of the cliff-face, but the trail didn't go anywhere. Note the tree at this track also says 'PP', but it also says 'NO PP - EXIT ONLY' - this is not the tree you want to turn off at to reach the peak. I also saw a greenish-brown snake slither into the bushes ahead of me on this track, but none at the top track or the peak.

On the peak, once you've crossed the knife-edge and you reach the first lookout, you can double back about 15 metres and climb down to the track below, which continues to another lookout further on. Going down I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to get back up again, but the climb up is easier than the climb down.

Relatively easy hike in / out. And yes if you don't like heights maybe take the b line where possible. Great views from the top!

I came out and back on the razorback, love a good rock scramble/climb!! Unlike others on here, took me longer, over 3 hours, took my time, did it solo. Found the fire trail to the tree just a hard slog. Glad I read up about the razorback before going, agree with other comments, lots of foot and hand holds, not good though if you’re afraid of heights!

Came back and managed to reach the summit this time along the ridge. Looped back around the bottom of the ridge on the way down. Recommend doing it this way.

Tough walk up the fire trail but well worth the effort. If you miss the tree you can double back, its not too far. Amazing views from the top and has that fear factor crossing the razor edge. Def recommend this one.

A great walk, rock scramble a challenge but made it. Nearly stopped too early before pages pinnacle, well worth pushing on.

Great Hike, Scramble near the end can be a deterrent for some but definitely worth the view. Encountered a venomous snake in one of the rocks while scrambling across so just be very careful.

Lovely scramble near the end, though some venomous snakes in the rocks meant we had to turn back.

👍🏻👍🏻 Well worth the effort and a great Gold Coast hike.

What a great hike! Not very long, but still challenging & beautiful views. Starts with a basic uphill fire trail before you get to the main track. We looked up just in time to spot the tree with PP which marks the turn off. The rocky ridgeline was a little intimidating, but there were a lot of places to grab along the way, so I made it across ok. There is an alternative path if you're not comfortable with the rocky scramble across the ridgeline...we took this on the way back. After the ridgeline we continued to the lookout at the end of the track.

Unreal hike today. So lucky with the weather. Had the ridge to ourselves.

Pretty great hike/climb! The rocky ridgeback could be a deterrent for some but if you take it slow n steady it’s worth the view. I didn’t go beyond that too the lookout beyond, but it seems to be a good recommendation too. Enjoy and stay safe.

Like a few others, I read the comments on here and still missed the tree. Thanks to some passerbyers I reached the end. It was definitely worth it! The climb along the rocks is the biggest challenge but takes you to a great view.

Did Pages Pinnacle this morning when it was sunny yet cool. The hike up the fire trail requires a moderate level of fitness and easy to follow. No need to worry about the PP tree because when you reach the top of the fire trail there is an intersection where you can follow a track on your left that meets up with the PP tree trail. Definitely worth the rock scramble across the pinnacles as the views are spectacular once you reach Pages. The rock scramble to get there requires one to be focused and keep their resolve but the rocks give good grip with plenty of foot and hand holds. Highly recommend it and will definitely be doing that one again.

Hard slog up from car park to the first ridge. Was quite muddy from the recent rains. Traversing the first ridge was not to difficult would have been easy as back when I was 30. Fantastic 360 degree views of the Advancetown Dam and Numinbah valley and Egg rock. Bit of a climb down to the base of pages pinnacle and then a scramble up and across another ridge to the top. Reasonably easy return trip staying below in the rainforest. Lovely day.

The hike up the fire trail is technically easy but you need a reasonable level of fitness. The real challenge for me was the ridge line crawl, and I have the bruises to prove it haha! Don’t attempt this unless you are very experienced or with someone very experienced.

Great walk! Absolutely brutal up until you get to the rock scramble, not for a beginner fitness level. The walk up to the start of the track is fairly bland, just a classic fire-trail bush track. The tree to turn at is almost right at the end, but if you follow the map on AllTrails you won't miss it.
The rock scramble across the top of the pinnacle is worth it for the beautiful views but it's not for the faint of heart!
If you have an extra hour spare theres a track that runs around the whole base of the pinnacle as well that's a great walk.

stegasarahus on 15 Sep, 2021

Didn’t miss the tree! lol The scramble at the top scared me a bit but I took my time and had support from friends. Highly recommend! Took 2hrs total. Definitely coming back to do again :)

I MISSED THE TREE!
After reading some of the comment before starting this walk I knew I couldn’t miss the tree…well the tree was hard to see it’s doesnt really stand out but I did make life easier for myself and hopefully other what I learnt.
If you see a broken pipe on the ground (pictured) you’ve gone to far (by about 20m) if you see a water tank you have
Well and truly gone to far and don’t go down the steep hill there’s no need.

On the way back I recorded the distance from the tree
to the (left turn) on the track the tree is 1.53k from that point

Once you finally reach the peak, it is beautiful if you are comfortable with heights and scrambling you’ll be fine.

Love this hike, 2.5 hour round trip In a group so there were certainly lots of slower moving moments and a reasonable amount of time spent at the two 'photo oportunity points'. Starts with a decent steep Firetrail most of the way up, requiring a good cardiovascular level. There's a small amount of rock scramble across the pinnacle- the best part in my opinion. Can be windy and much cooler in winter. Start early if you can, track looks to get busy! Passed lots of hikers on the way back down. (We started at 730am).
