Getting there

Acces via Cleared Ridge car park for Upper Portals.

Route/Trail notes

Down to the junction in the trail at Yamahra Creek and turn right, cross the creek and follow the road towards the cattle yards, keep going around past Grace's Hut and after a small creek course (dry generally) where the road does a hard right turn find the ridge line up.

You may have to push through some fern growth lower down and then find some foot pads to follow.

Climb the steep ridge line, at the peak of the ridge turn West and walk through rainforest across a saddle and up to the peak.

It is part of a longer track around to Durramlee, Focal Peak and/or Double Peaks or loop around to Montserrat and back down to Upper Portals, that would probably be an overnighter.

Started from the Waterfall Creek Reserve Camping area, followed the track to the Upper Portals until the creek. Crossed the creek, followed the road until Grace's Hut and then headed up the mountain along an overgrown 4wd road. Eventually we skirted up the ridge through thick scrunge and long grass (very physically demanding ascent). Once at the top we intercepted a semi-decent track that led all the way to the summit. Great views at the top in both directions!! We were going to continue on to Monseratt but there is 0, and I mean 0 track, so we ended up coming back the way we came up.

Spectacular, incredible walk. Ascended Mowburra Peak, dropped down to focal peak and across to Montserrat then back down to Graces hut. (The traverse between Mowburra & Montserrat is recommended for people very experienced in navigation in thick rainforest, there is no track and no visuals!)
