Queen Mary Falls Circuit

Main Range National Park

From the Queen Mary Falls lookout, watch Spring Creek plunge over the 40m Queen Mary Falls to continue its twisting journey down the valley floor to join the Condamine River. On a summer's day take time to pause for a moment to feel the waterfall's cool spray.
There are often water dragons sunbaking on rocks around the valley floor and the track goes through plenty of ferns and native Australian trees.

The approach from Boonah is very steep and should be travelled with care. It is unsuitable for caravans.

Route/Trail Notes:

Circuit can be walked either way, one section includes a lot of steps.  If it has been very wet in the area, the area at the bottom can become slippery as a mist from the falls covers this area.

Do not attempt to cross when in flood or if water covers the causeway.

Permits/Costs:

None

Other References/Comments:

Picnic tables, wood-fired barbecues and free electric barbecues, toilets are provided.

For safety reasons the track is closed following periods of heavy rainfall due to potential rock falls.

Comments

Great, short walk. Lots of frilled-neck lizards on the rocks everywhere. Gorgeous parrots (rosellas and king parrots) that will sit on your head and will happily be hand-fed at the cafe across the road. A special spot.

As with the other comments, a very nice enjoyable walk.
Would also recommend to go clockwise from the picnic area and go down the stairs first, though as per comments, either way is actually easy enough.
Beautiful walk through the rainforest / trees on the way back up particularly (if clockwise) though path can be narrow and straight edge drop on that side.
Waterfall is stunning and the picnic area and entire area around is amazing. Make sure you go across the road to the caravan park and experience the King Parrots, Rosellas and Rainbow Lorikeets sitting on your arms, hands and head and eating from your hands! (you can buy seed from kiosk - see photos!!)
Drive a bit up the road to Carr's lookout! Stunning views!

Nice walk, doable with kids, our 2 year old walked the whole way. Amazing waterfall that you'll get to see from the bottom and also from the top.

Amazing Little walk totally recommend!

I had thought heading down to the valley floor and back up would be taxing. Actually a surprisingly easy walk. We headed clockwise to avoid climbing stairs on the way back. Beautiful spot to watch nature do it's thing.

Always busy on a public holiday, nevertheless worth doing again. Including the long and scenic drive up/ down.

Super easy walk.

Majestic loved the path except I went down the steps to start the circuit easier coming back on a steady climb

Easy walk - we saw plenty of families with small children while doing this walk. We did it the "wrong way" but it wasn't that bad.

Upper lookouts closed for works.

We walked this with an almost 5 year old with no problem. We just needed to watch her near the cliffs. We walked it in a clockwise direction and found the walk really quite easy. The falls are magnificent.

An easy walk with some spectacular views of the Falls. Did the whole circuit - even Daggs Falls and Browns Falls were beautiful

Was here for a goregous sunset, sun setting right in line with the gorge

Easy circut walk to scenic waterfall. We completed in an anti clockwise direction finishing with the stairs. Not as many stairs as expected although I expect they are challenging for some. Take a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park nearby.

Short and sweet!

Nice easy walk with our 7 and 9 year olds. We did the circuit in anti-clockwise direction (forgetting the advice to walk clockwise), so ended up going up all the steps on the way back up, but we found this relatively easy going (and the kids didn't even complain! Unlike them....). If you're relatively fit and active, it wouldn't make much difference whether you walk clockwise or anti-clockwise. Perhaps if you had younger children, they'd find it easier going clockwise.

Lovely short walk with many stairs. The falls are well worth a look, huge drop and can be enormous after rain.

Bobbe on 2019

Nice easy walk. Do clockwise so that you do not have to climb up the stairs on the way back. Falls are majestic. Best done after rains.
