Getting there

From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway through Aratula towards Cunninghams Gap. 5.4km after Aratula turn left onto Lake Moogerah Rd (signposted Lake Moogerah and Spicers Peak). 5.8km later turn right onto Spicers Gap Rd. Follow this road another 6.5km into the National Park and park on the left at the Pioneer Graves Picnic Area, just past the campground.

Route/Trail notes

The walk leaves from the back of the carpark and is clearly marked. Make sure to read the information signs to understand the nature of the graveyard.

Little walk to a commemorative cairn - no graves as such - great little picnic area with bush bbqs and tables…

very interesting to read into the lives of the pioneers who lay here. i dont know if i could camp here...i would get thouroughly spooked out.

Started and finished the Mt Mathieson Loop Trail here. The history about the settlers graves is interesting. The plaques on the monument are badly weathered and it is very hard to read what is on them.

Short walk near the camp ground with some poignant reminders of our early settlers & their difficult lives. Shame it is not being kept in better condition.

Nice short walk. It was interesting to read all the information boards which contain history of the area and the surrounding mountains such as the gold mine on Mt Cordeaux (I had always wondered what that was).

After having a bbq lunch at the campground explore the grave site area. There are small wallabies and plenty of birds around.
