Moss's Well, in tall open forest, is a haven for many species of birds. The well is believed to take its name from Edward Moss, the first road contractor. This was the only water for travellers and their teams making their way over the range. The well water is now unsuitable for drinking.

Quick easy walk when you are up this way doing some of the longer walks. Easy to add on.

Passed by as part of the Mathieson trail loop. Interesting to picture yourself at the location 150 years ago, and taking a sip. The water did seem clear enough to drink when i passed by.

Another side trip off the Mt Mathieson Loop Trail. If you get close to the well and stand perfectly still, you will be joined by honey eaters, finches and wrens to name a few. Quite enchanting to just sit and hear and watch.

Cool walk to the Moss well. There is lots of leaf litter in the well so the water might be contaminated.

Short pleasant walk through the forest to what was a water source for early pioneers.

A very short walk to a small pool of water. Good to see for it's historical value and importance to animals that use it.

Beautiful beginners bushwalk when combined with the Governors Chair. We took my children 9, 5 and 5 and they loved hearing the stories on the plaques and learning more about Australian history.

Looks very different from the picture presented now. Water looks like it's flowing from a rock nearby and has formed a little creek running over the already full well. I'd only take a look if you were on the road already. Interesting information boards.

A stagnant waterhole surrounded by mosquitoes, I'm sure it would have been much more important back in the day.
