Getting there

From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway towards Cunningham's Gap. At the top of the gap turn right into a car park adjoining the highway. Follow the Mt. Cordeaux track which leaves from the edge of the car park.

Maps

The track is clearly marked so no map is required, however, the Sunmap Cunninghams Gap sheet covers the area.

Route/Trail notes

The Bare Rock track turns off just before the Mt. Cordeaux lookout. Follow the track as it passes through a saddle and into the rainforest. Morgan's Walk leaves the main track 680m short of Bare Rock and visits a beautiful grove of montane heath.

A stunning late winter walk ⛰️
Took around 3.5 hours at a brisk space. 1 hour up to Mt. Cordeaux lookout and another 45 to Bare Rock.

We loved the changes in biomes 💚 From rainforests, rocky outcrops, and the grassy saddle. The view from Bare Rock is fr way better compared to Mt Cordeaux and Mitchell.

🦅 Fauna spots: Was super lucky to see a wedge-tailed eagle doing a low flyover while at the lookout! Also saw three Albert's lyrebird which is insane. One at very close range. <3

🌼💐 Flora spots: First few gymea spear lilies starting to shoot out flower spikes. Golden ever lasting daisies abound at the lookout :)

Surprised Bare Rock now provides 360 degree views - last time the scrub prevented views to the West. Great walk as always.

2nd time hiking Mt Cordeaux & Bare Rock. This time we made it to Bare Rock for sunset. It was a very windy & cold at the top, but still beautiful. It was also our first time hiking at night, coming back down the mountain.
It took us about 1 hour to get to Mt Cordeaux lookout & about another 45 minutes to Bare Rock. This was at a moderate pace. Then about 1.5 hours to hike back down at night.

4.5h return taking it very casually. The track is easy for just about anyone ( I am 60) and you get really good views from Bare Rock.

Completed this as part of Mt Cordeaux, definately worth the extra couple of KM's.

Definitely do Mt Cordeaux on the way to Bare Rock and Morgans! Great walk,be nice to do Mt Cordeaux for a sunrise and continue on!

Nice easy walk past the Mt Cordeaux summit. You get a better view of the range so it is well worth the extra hike out. The track is well graded and the weather was nice and cool even in December due to the altitude.

We left about 9.45 am and did Palm Grove before reaching Mt Cordeaux at 11.52 am. After lunch we decided to do Morgans walk and Bare Mountain. Had a great day with clear views to Lake Moogerah and even Brisbane city. Got back to the car park at 3.07 pm. About 5 hours 25 mins all up.

A clear easy path, well used, a steady climb, the views from both bare rock and cordeux summit are absolutely beautiful. Path is mostly shaded by trees which is amazing in summer. Kids (10 & 13) survived the 12.6km, completed in 3hrs20minutes. would like to return some time for sunrise!

Wonderful walk! Clear pathways, signed and maps so it is very easy to navigate. It’s long, but we’ll worth the view at Bare Rock. Can’t wait to do it again and watch the sunrise right up there!
