Neglected Mountain

Lamington National Park

Neglected Mountain lives up to it's name which is a shame because the walk provides excellent views from the top.

Getting there

Follow the Mount Lindsey Highway south from Brisbane to Beaudesert. 14 kilometres after Beaudesert veer left onto Christmas Creek Road, follow the signs to Stinson Park.  With the Stinson Park campground on the left, turn right on gravelled Gap Creek Road and follow it a short distance to a locked gate and the start of the track, there is a good carpark beside the road about 200m before this gate.

Route/Trail notes

Be aware navigation skills are required as the trail can be hard to find. If you get lost head back to the general direction of the gate.

From the gate continue along the gravel road uphill through private property and you should find a hut with a dunny and a derelict ute. Veer left and follow a 4WD track uphill along the crest of a ridge. When the road ends follow a rough footpad uphill along the spine of the ridge. At the crest turn right onto another ridge. Go up two rocky bluffs  to the crest of the ridge and continue on to the top of a grassy knoll. It's then relatively easy to find your way from there simply continue north until you reach the grassy summit.

Permits/Costs

As far as I'm aware there are no costs associated with doing this hike

Comments

Neglected mountain lives up to its name! There was a few “paths” but not sure if they were created by people or cows. Got halfway up yet not sure if on the right track as most of it is overgrown. It appeared to get vertical and the dirt made it challenging to continue. There is a hut now next to the dunny and truck where it appears someone lives there. Do not recommend

Fairly straight forward mountain with some exceptional views on your way to the summit (views at the summit are a bit obstructed). Was pretty dry up there so the track was quite clear the whole way, only place you could come unstuck is at the start around the hut where there are a few tracks going off in different directions but as the others have said, follow the ridge and you'll be pretty well right.

NEGLECTED MOUNTAIN 😩⛰ 12km round trip, muddy as hell start after rain but dried out nicely for the run back to the car. First 2k up is steep and soft but once u hit the ridge and follow it right for 4K it is nothing but sweet action ⛰🏃🏻‍♂️The guide says stay left after the old hut/4WD but you wanna follow the ridge up to the right straight after it, keep an eye out for the herds of Wagyu Beef all the way to the summit, there is a bull present but he didn’t seem aggressive, I stayed well clear just saying... easily a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Mission even in the drizzle 🌧 oh and you only have to ask permission if u want to do something other than Neglected Mountain trail, sign at gate clearly states expectations 🙏🏻

Nice walk. Have to ask the owner if you want to walk past their property. You must have navigation skills, which i don't have. I was following the bushwalking club.
