Bellbird Lookout

Lamington National Park

THIS TRACK NO LONGER EXISTS

This track branches off the Ships Stern circuit and descends through rainforest and open forest before emerging suddenly at Bellbird lookout—a natural lookout (with no handrails) above a very high, sheer cliff. Please keep children under close supervision and keep well away from the cliff edge.

The land around this lookout and most of the track is not part of the national park—it belongs to Binna Burra Mountain Lodge. For enquiries, please contact Binna Burra Mountain Lodge on (07) 5533 3622.

From here you get an excellent view of Ships Stern, Turtle Rock, Egg Rock (Kurraragin) and Numinbah Valley—all remnants of what millions of years of erosion, landslides and weathering have created.

Hoop pines Araucaria cunninghamii can be seen from the lookout, growing on the exposed northern slopes. Harvesting of hoop pine and red cedar Toona ciliata led to the initial European settlement and ultimately the clearing of Numinbah Valley for agriculture.

Easy walk. Great for cracking the sunrise over the valley and egg rock. As the sun came into the valley the cockatoos started waking up. Saw a flock of sulphur crested at the bottom and a few big glossy black flying and calling over head. Pretty special.

A lovely walk. There’s been rain so it’s quite muddy in places especially the upper part of the track.

Short, easy walk to do in the dark with headlamps. Pre sunrise the valley below was misty and magical, then when the sun rose it just got better! We returned via a cliff track that ended down the road from the retreat and walked back up.

Did this walk early in the morning before doing the ships stern circuit. The views were nice over the ships stern and I heard some bell birds chirping in the bush. It was a gentle, easy walk. Would recommend to anyone else

Nice easy walk with the kids.

Walked this one this morning. Very gentle stroll with my partner. Sat in the rain at the lookout and hugged a tree. Enormous old knotted tree along the route - climbed a little and found it hollow inside. Wish I was young enough to play inside a tree :)

Very easy (but no, not wheelchair suitable). The view at the end is rewarding.

Amazing lookouts around this area

This is a great walk for all ages, thought the lookout is not fenced, so be careful with the kids. The views were excellent today, as the skies were clear and we could see Straddie.

Great views
