Route/Trail notes

A well maintained track leading from Kingfisher Resort to Lake McKenzie , alternately you can walk the beach at low tide to Mckenzies Jetty before following the track to Lake Mckenzie. The section from Lake Mckenzie is hilly with varying vegetation starting with melaleuca scub and changing to rainforest as you approach Central Station, Signage is infrequent or unreliable, Camping is available at Central Station in a dingo proof enclosure

Permits/Costs

Camping permits are required if overnighting and available through QLD National Parks

Comments

Spent 3 days doing sections of the Fraser Island Great Walk Day 1 Kingfisher Bay to Central Station (22 km) , initially started well but about 1 hour in hit a sign saying track closed so we were forced to follow a 4WD track which was quiet soft , exited at Lake McKenzie and got back on to the GW track across lots of hills down to Central Station, Overnighted at main campsite as the walkers campsite seemed very neglected
