Buaraba Creek Track

Ravensbourne National Park

This walk is an extension off Palm Creek Circuit in Ravensbourne National Park, travelling downhill to Bauraba Creek. Bauraba Creek is a small stream with Piccabeen Palms over the other side. It is spring-fed so the water is quite shallow, but it's also cool and fresh - a great shady spot to rest before the walk back to the car.

Officially listed as Grade 4/Hard difficulty (includes rough surfaces, some steep stairs + occasionally overgrown), this track is suitable for walkers with a moderate fitness level.

Route/Trail notes

  • For the most direct route to the creek, start from the trailhead at Blackbean Day Use Area. Continue around the hair-pin bend at the giant Sydney Blue Gum, and keep to the main trail at every marked intersection (ignore the side tracks for Rainforest Circuit & Palm Creek Circuit). The trail starts in rainforest, then passes by a gully of picabeen palms, before leading through to a section of open eucalypt forest. There is a picnic table about 1km before you reach the creek, then the path travels more steadily downhill, ending with several flights of steps just before the creek.
  • Return by the same route or complete the other circuits on the way back to the carpark.

Love this walk. So much variety of vegetation types, with lots of birds and interesting rock features. Met a green tree snake on the path today but no goannas this time. Creek has enough water to dip your feet in at the moment - explore upstream for a deeper section up to your knees (make sure you check for ticks though).

Highlight was the serenity of the picturesque creek.

Completed the buaraba track today and all side tracks. The creek was only just a trickle and the walk back up was hot so would recommend completing the walk earlier in the day. It was a lovely walk and the Gas Beutel lookout is a beautiful place to stop and have a picnic.

Nice and easy walk in lush palm tree rainforest with lots of bird spotting. Be careful though as there is quite alot of Gympie Gympie Stinging Tree along all the trails within this National Park and quite a few of them are close to the track (within accidental brushing distance of arms or ankles).

We did this walk in conjunction with the other walks in the park. Lots of birds to spot.

Nice work.

Completed this one with the Rainforest & Palm Creek Circuits. Ended up being 8.5km in total. A lovely place to hike & a good track.

Made this walk as part of a circuit with the Rainforest and Palm Creek circuits. Relatively easy with some steps that some people might find challenging. There wasn't much water but still a really pretty creek and nice spot to stop and take a break.

Word of warning, if travelling from Brisbane and using GPS, it may want you to go along Seventeen Mile Rd. This is an unsealed road that is only suitable for 4WD - lots of corrugation and pot holes. Best to go via Esk

A well marked and easy to follow trail that leads you down gradually to a little stream. There are places to sit by the stream and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. I did find three very curious drawings on a cliff face and have uploaded the pictures, I'd love to know more about them especially if they are true aboriginal in origin and not just drawn by someone at random.

We walked down to the creek and then back taking all side tracks and circuits. It would have been better to do this walk in the reverse though I think. There were quite a few stairs. You are walking up hill most of the way back.
