Jindalba Boardwalk

Daintree National Park

The Jindalba (meaning ‘foot of the mountain’) boardwalk explores tropical lowland rainforest. Quiet walkers may be lucky enough to see a tree-kangaroo or cassowary. Boardwalk transitions to gravel path through lush rainforest in the Daintree. This is quite close to the Daintree Discovery Centre which is well worth a visit also.

Route/Trail notes

The short walk starts from the carpark and continues through the rainforest often transitioning between boardwalk and gravel path.

NOTE: There is a longer walk option here for a 2 hour return trip. Those keen for the boardwalk should always keep left to avoid accidentally heading on the longer route.

Did the 3km walk as the shorter boardwalk was under maintenance

Currently undergoing maintenance. It's possible to walk a section of the boardwalk and then return by the same route.
The longer and slightly more challenging 2.7km walk is open, but the loop is one way only (due to Covid I guess)?

The long walk (2.7km) from here is a beauty and less popular. Lots of evidence of cassowary but I didn't see one until driving on the road back out.

Did this walk early one morning.....almost walked straight into a cassowary and his young....was a great experience.

We did this purely to try and spot a cassowary. We weren't successful but we did spot the Ulysses and Birdwing butterflies as well as some beautiful Kingfishers.
