Route/Trail notes:

From the signs talking about the Great Walk, head up the steps and follow the signs. After 400m, you branch left and follow along the side of Booloumba Creek before taking the circular path to you right up to the disused Gold Mine.

Complete the circuit, before turning left along the main pathway that leads back to the start.

Or, you can carry on to Strangler Cairn, Artists Cascades and Booloumba Falls.

Permits/Costs:

None. There are various camping options within the park, that require you to buy a permit. See:

After a great night's camping we are out early to finish off another couple of walks to round off the weekend. Plenty of birdlife around and the changing environment made this a very pleasant walk.

We started out to do this walk, but ended up going all the way to the Artists Cascades, 14km round trip. This is a lovely walk through the bush, although the walk to the gold mine is a little more inclined that the description makes out, but still a relatively easy walk if you are fit enough. The walk to the Artists Cascades is a little more challenging, but all pretty well defined & well used paths.....although not tended & groomed like a lot of walks, which is nice. Took us about 3 hours to do the 14km walk

A beautiful walk to the falls with lots of photo opportunities on the way. The track is a bit overgrown in some parts which makes it a bit hard to follow but persevere and you'll pop out to the mine. I recommend proper footwear and be mindful of snakes. We saw a decent size black snake on the trail (unsure what it was) lucky for us it was moving in the opposite direction.

We did this walk as part of the walk to Artists Cascades. It is a loop track, joining up with the Great Walk track 300m further down. We did it on the way back in a clockwise direction, but it would probably be easier anti-clockwise. The entrance to the mine isn't in good shape. A tree has fallen over the top of it, not that you can go into the mine anyway. Take care. We did see a two metre long carpet snake near the mine.

If you have no 4wd to access Booloumba Creek camp ground you can get here via Charlie Moreland camp ground BUT and it's a big BUT , you will need to hike over Mt Allan and back this round trip is almost 17.8km !!!!! A decent level of fitness is required and sufficient amount of time !

Wow, what a great walk. Rainforest, tracks in great nic. Great time of year to go. Access to the creek from this track worth a look. Crystal clear water. U can access the creek from any of the 3 (shallow) creek crossings up to No2 day camp area. Take the blow up lilo, the kids will have a ball.
