Day 2 of Carnarvon Gorge. Set out to cover most of the highlight sites today by walking to Big Bend at the far end of the park. Then on the way back, take the side tracks to visit Boowinda Gorge, Cathedral Cave, Art Gallery, Wards Canyon, Amphitheatre and Moss Garden. All are spectacular features and combine with so many palms, cycad's, ferns and trees. Big day with the GPS total of 26 + km's and so many photo's!!!

Great Walk. Went up as far as the Art gallery and completed all side tracks apart from the Bluff. Heading back in June to do big bend etc. As well as Mt Moffat.

Amazing walk! Bring 4L of water at least in hot day

Absolutely stunning, one of Australia's best hikes. Highly recommend doing the Big Bend walk over 2 days, camping there overnight and seeing EVERY single point of interest along the way. The walk from Big Bend up to the lookout on Battleship Spur is also well worth it. I did get lost and almost died in the night at that end bit, but at least that was a fun lesson too

Fantastic walk, Lots of water crossings along the way and made very easy using the steppingstones, what a glorious place

So worth it. It’s up and down the whole way and tones of creek crossings. But it’s worth the Kim’s.

One of our favorite hiking experiences so far. We've arrived at Sandstone park the day before and started the next day on the Big Bend walk. On day one we've completed the following:
Big bend, Boowinda gorge, Art gallery, Amphitheatre, Moss garden. It was spectacular and the path is very well signed and easy to follow. Make sure you'll bring plenty of water and lunch with you.
We had a rest day and came back the following day to do the following tracks: The nature trail with the hope to spot some platypus, unfortunately we weren't that lucky. Boolimba Bluff is quite a steep climb with lots of steps, but the view at the top is absolutely amazing. We really loved the amphitheatre , so made our way back there to admire those beautiful colours and height of the sandstone walls once more. When we got back to the car, we drove to Mickey creek and parked the car there. Easy bushwalk, but when you get to the T-section, definitely make your way to the right towards the Warrumbah gorge. Stunning to be able to explore our way further and further through the gorge. Mickey creek was a bit of a downer compare to the gorge. To finish off our fantastic experience at Carnarvon gorge, we had a dip in the rock pool. Lovely setting of slow moving water to cool off your feet and sit on a rock to watch the small fish around you. Very pleasant and refreshing!

Impressive! Only did about half and the Cathedral was closed, but still well worth it.

Canarvon Gorge is one of my favorites!

We completed the following in day one.
Moss Garden
Amphitheatre
Ward's Canyon
Art Gallery

Camped at the Takaraka Bush Resort and did the Boolimba Bluff on the second day.

Tracks are properly marked and well maintained, you don't really have to walk uphill’s on any of them, except Boolimba Bluff, but that isn't very difficult either. There were some stairs to climb but it is all worth it!
Canarvon Gorge is something I would visit again and I can’t wait to experience the 87KM Canarvon Great Walk!

This was our first destination on our 12000K drive from Ipswich to Uluru via Mt Isa, and then down to Port Augusta and then home through NSW. The walk is well signed and easy to follow. We did the walk in reverse. By this I mean we walked straight to the end and then did all of the side trips on the way back to Takaraka camp grounds. We left very early in the morning and arrived back at camp just on sundown. Fabulous walk with very interesting history. Definitely take lots of water and food if you do the walk this way.

1st part of the walk is easy. the 2nd half will require some orienteering skill. make sure you take plenty of water and snack ..dont forget your sunscreen and a hat. we found that a trekking pole was helpful
