Route/Trail notes:

From the car park, going clockwise up a moderate 400m steep stepped climb and then along the ridge to the Giant's Chair lookout up the gorge. Continue on along the fire trail, before turning right down a track to Fern Tree Pool to cool your feet; then crisscross Doctor's Gully back to the start.

Permits/Cost:

None

Other References/Comments:

Decent footwear is recommended if there has been recent rain. Listen for the call of the Great Brown Broodfrog at the pool and watch for the goannas on the walk out.

Basing yourself at Cania Gorge Tourist Retreat for a few days, is a great way to provide easy access to these walks.

Definitely will be doing it from fern tree pool to giants chair lookout next time. Those stairs going up were a killer!

A longer walk than the usual ones we take. But well worth it for the views. A well made platform at Giants Chair Lookout. Keep a lookout for the trail out from Fern Tree Pool down the creek. It's easily missed and seen another walker go back over the mountain in which we came in.

I started at the caravan park and started from the Devils Chair hike uphill first which suited my 60 year old knees better. It meant a hard slog uphill to begin with but then from Fern Pool it was a pleasant hike out.
If you take the time to sit quietly up on the rock ledge on the other side of Fern Pool you will be rewarded after a bit of patience with a large variety of small birds using the pool to drink from. Admittedly when I was there it was extremely dry elsewhere.
Delightful hike through a variety of eco systems.

What a great way to spend the early morning on this circuit, to the extent I did it again the next day! My favourite walk in the gorge.

Took my husband and I 1 1/2hrs to complete and that wasn't rushing it. We walked anti clockwise so followed along the creek area which was easy wslking. After Fern Tree Pool there is an ascent up to the top with some steps. The walk across the top follows the fire trail and is easy walking to the lookout. From there it us all downhill with a lot of steps back to the car park. Recommend going anti clockwise if you want less steps. Enjoyable walk.
