Westside Track

D'Aguilar National Park

On the opposite side of the Maiala Picnic Area there is a small clearing. Some BBQ tables and chairs are there as well as a fire ring. At the entrance to the walking track there's an information board. Full great info and history.

A nice easy walk up to the Western Window lookout, unfortunately at the time of writing the section from Western Window to Lawton road was still closed due to landslides. Still thoroughly enjoyable though. If you want a bit more distance through similar terrain you can also do Joyner's Ridge road.

Made a circuit starting with Western Window track which joins this walk at the bottom of the steps just before the closed track. Nice easy 2.5 km walk this way round.

This was a really nice walk! We loved the narrow track, the darkness from the canopy and all of the birdlife. Beautiful views and stunning outlook into the rainforest below the track. After exiting the track at Lawton Road, and walking back along Mt Glorious Road to get back to our starting point at Maiala Picnic Area (as suggested by a book we have) it stops being a lovely walk...especially with the never ending trail of motorbikes and cars on the road so we would recommend to stay on the track in the rainforest - well away from the road as it’s safer & a much nicer outlook! We added the Rainforest Circuit, Greenes Falls and the Cypress Grove Track to complete just over 10km.

This was an easy walk through bushland. Tree roots and rocks are on the track so you do need to be mindful. Spotted two Wompoo Fruitdoves, Eastern-yellow Robins and some other birdlife (need to be quick!). Enjoyed this walk not only for the outlook but also due to less people and less people talking loudly.

Plenty of leeches today after the rain

HellsBells on 5 Apr, 2019

We only ended up completing part of this walk due to getting confused at the start. We decided to begin the track off Joyners Ridge Rd. We climbed over the gate where there appear to be two forestry roads. The signs to the walking tracks led up the one to the right. We wrongly concluded that this track was the path. It was actually Joyner's Ridge Rd. it was a nice pleasant walk and I would recommends it - particularly the first kilometre through picabeen forest. We only realised our mistake after 3.5km. What we missed was a narrower walking track to the right of the road near the start with a sign with an arrow on it. So after we had walked down the road we took the correct track as far as the steps up to the western window. We'll have to go back again to complete the track completely. We had no problem at all with leeches. Didn't see one even though it had been raining during the weeks previous.

A quieter walk at Mt Glorious than Greene's Falls. I prefer the fire track road (Bryces Road) below this track though.

This walk is less busy than the others from the Maiala car park. There was a massive tree obstructing the track towards the end, this was manageable to climb under. I recommend combining this one with the Westerner Window track on the way back. It offers a nice view and will take you back to the picnic ground.

This one is a little harder than some of the other track walks in the area but it's a lovely patch of forest and worth doing.

As mentioned on the other side , rest area provides nice view of Lake Wivenhoe area.

Delightful walk on a hot day. Well shaded, easy contours with very little elevation gain or loss. Came across a heap of Blue Quondong fruit on the track.

I have never seen so many leeches! The view from the Western Window was awesome but you can get here from the road. I won't be doing this walk again. It didn't really lead anywhere nice and you either go back through the leeches up the same path to get back or walk up the road. It seemed like all we did for this walk was dodge vines and flick leeches off and there was no real reward. Not even a seat with a view at the end to have a snack. The rainforest circuit over the road was more rewarding despite it's short length.

Started this walk early in the morning .....brrrr.. cold. 12 degrees C. Put the jacket on and the gloves then headed off.

The track is well worn and easy to follow. Just after the beginning approx 100m in there are plenty of vines hanging down. It is easy to pass under them. Keep on the track for about 600m then you'll reach the Western Window. Great views here to be had.

After a rest keep going until you reach Lawton Road. Turn right and continue uphill until you reach the main road. Then continue back down the road back to where you started or stop at the Western Window go along the track again until you reach the T junction turn left here and follow the track back towards along Joyners Ridge Road.

From there you will emerge from the bush lower than where you started. Walk back up the road to where you started. And it's a great place to have lunch/ coffee and relax.

Another day.... Another walk....

Another great walk to take the kids on. A few glimpses of great views and interesting rock formations to clamber over.
