Getting there

Set your GPS to 'Lions Head Hike Carpark' which is located on Signal Hill Road. There is a medium size carpark and room to park on the side of the road as well.

Route/Trail notes

Cross the road from the carpark and you will find a signpost with information about the hike. Be careful to take the path on the left, the path on the right parallels the road all the way up to Signal Hill. The first half of the walk is up a fire-road that loops around the mountain. Eventually the track becomes less of a walk and more of a climb with a series of ladders and staples. Nothing overly technical but you will be required to be somewhat agile. Eventually you will reach the summit which has phenomenal views of Table Mountain, Cape Town and the surrounding beaches.

We decided to climb it for the sunrise so left our hotel in the dark. Turns out a lot of other hikers had the same idea, saw a heap of people during our walk. It is a pretty gentle incline until you reach the start of the scrambling section. To give some context this is nowhere near as hard as Tibrogargan, the ladders and stakes in the rock ensure you have plenty of hand and foot holds. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the sunrise as the famous Table Mountain tablecloth of cloud swept over us just prior to the sun rising. Still a great experience with some nice views on the way back down.
