Getting there

How do you get to the start of the walk? take the D117 from Lavelanet towards Foix or vice versa. Coming from Lavelanet, the turn to take is on the right heading towards Foix. It is immediately after a building signed as a boucherie( butchers). Drive along this very narrow road until you reach the beginning of the walk- the road is blocked off. You will know you are on the right road because the river will be on your left. Incidentally, there is quite an extensive cave on your right, with a stream flowing into the river. Pretty cool to investigate if you have a torch.

Route/Trail notes

A detailed description of the walk! from the beginning of the walk, follow the well formed former mine acess road which goes up the gorge, well treed, lots of bird life with the chance to see eagles hovering above the gorge. Eventually you reach a bridge that takes you over the river. At this point you can keep walking up the gorge, but I decided to do some free style walking along the other bank, back to the car. Generally it is pretty easyy, but there are places where you will have to scramble up fairly steep slopes to get around areas where there is no flat area next to riverbank. eventually you will reach a disused concrete bridge which you cross and retrace your path back to your car. A very pleasant walk.
