Route/Trail notes

Follow the Australian Alps Walking Track going off trail to bag the peaks. The highest 10 can be hard to identify, so some research or local knowledge is important. Not really sure about the 40k distance, this is only approximate.

Permits/Costs

There is a permit cost to enter the park, available at the park entrance on Alpine Way

Comments

We did the 10 peaks recently over two days. Day 1 - set out from Charlotte's Pass and did the first 6. Day 2 we set out from Thredbo and completed the next four. The weather was great with about 85% walked in snow.
My Garmin Fenix watch did not record the track. If anyone has a track of the Aussie 10 in a format that can be transferred (eg .gpx) could you please post it on the site?

I am on my 50s and like to challenge myself with challenging things. On thr last Saturday of Summer 4 of u s attempted the aussie 10 in 1 day. To recap it is a 45km walk summiting the 10 highest peaks in Australia. It ended up being my second hardest day ever. We started at 450am and finished at 730pm. We had a great sense of accomplishment.
Last year in November we did the coast walk in The Royal National Park. This was 56 kms return and took about 15 hours.
I am now plotting my next hard adventure

Amazing Experience to complete. Incredible Scenery, and a great story to tell .. having stood on top of Australia's Highest Mountain.

Did this over 3 days.
Weather bad on the first.
Managed 16 highest.
Beautiful place to spend some time in.

Completed all 10 peaks plus six more over 2100m. One of the best hikes ever. Total distance varies but approx 65km and minimum 2000m ascent and decent. Care should be taken when climbing Mount Townsend and Rams Head Ranges which are boulder peaks. Take time to find right route around the mountain to scale the peak.

Did this walk with my Dad. There are some differing opinions on which ones are the highest, but the above are the ones I did. Great time of year for it. Nice in the Sun but cold in the dark and wind.
