Rocky Crossing Track

Getting there

Take Chichester Dam Road from Dungog, and turn left onto Salisbury Road. Follow this road all the way until it turns to dirt. At this point, there is a choice of three dirt roads that you can take. Take the road on the right that leads to the William's River Day Use Area.

Route/Trail notes

This walk begins at the William's River Day Use area in Barrington Tops National Park. The walk branches off the Blue Gum Loop track, and takes in side tracks to Lion Rock, a lookout over the river, the Pool of Reflections as well as a strangler fig before you descend to the Rocky Crossing. You can also continue uphill an extra 800m from the side track to Rocky Crossing up to Williams Top Picnic Area and carpark (this track is quite steep and strenuous.) There are also no toilets here, and no drinking water. Return by the same track and complete the Blue Gum circuit on your way back.

Really nice walk, with very few other people around

Have walked this walk many times. It is long, but enjoyable and reasonably easy. It follows the Williams River so there are only slight undulations which makes it pleasant going. Rocky Crossing is a gorgeous spot to stop off for a bite to eat before heading the Return journey. Some interesting short side tracks to Lion Rock(less than 100m off the main track), Pool of Reflections (less than 1km return).

We loved this track. Though long, it was quite easy, with a slight ascent from the beginning to the Rocky Crossing side track. We took the track up to the car park. It really is very steep. The Rocky crossing is really beautiful. Actually the whole track is quite nice too.
