Without a doubt, the journey along the Pinnacle walk to Pinnacle lookout is one of the highlights of the whole park and not to be missed.

It’s a short walk through World Heritage-listed rainforest before the track reaches Pinnacle lookout. You’re bound to be mesmerised by uninterrupted views of the whole park along with spectacular 360° views all the way to the coastline, the crater escarpment and to Wollumbin-Mount Warning.

If you’re an early riser, and even if you aren’t, it’s definitely worth making the effort to see the silhouette of Wollumbin when the sun rises – it’s a completely inspiring way to start your day in Border Ranges National Park.

Getting there

Pinnacle walk is accessed via the Tweed Range Scenic drive.

To get there:

Take Williams Road from Kyogle, turn into Creegan Road (which becomes Tweed Range Scenic drive)
Travel 23km along Tweed Range Scenic drive until you reach the Pinnacle walk

Vehicle access:

Via well-maintained gravel road; however, following heavy rains between December to May, the surface can be rough or slippery in parts. Suitable for 2WDs.

Parking:

Parking is available at the start of Pinnacle walk. $8 per vehicle per day. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins.

Stunning view. Went there one afternoon after a full day of hiking. Not a cloud in the sky, clear day coitus see for miles.
Easy walk of about 5 mins.

Very short walk through the rainforest to spectacular lookout. View to east looking out over Mt Warning. Perfect for sunrise.

This article makes mention of a coin operated parking meter, but this must be a mistake because there is nothing of the sort up there.

Stunning views from the lookout! Very easy walk. Didn't take us 30 minutes, more like 10, and we had our 8 and 9 year olds with us. Well worth the drive to get there and amazing views for very little effort. I'd definitely recommend a visit!

A nice easy walk to see some amazing views of the Tweed Caldera. There are better views to be had by climbing over the barrier and walking out to the end. If you've got a thing for heights you may be best staying at the lookout, but the 1km, (45min) walk out to the end has much better views and is far more rewarding. Takes this from a 'Very Easy' to a 'Medium' walk though. Check out youtube.com/watch?v=gTxnYxOAISo if you're curious!

A spectacular lookout, recommended. Drove in from the west side of the National Park, Tweed Range Scenic Drive on the eastern side was closed (due to the recent weather events) so it was a long drive to get to the highway :-/

We set off for this walk in the car from the Forest Tops Camping Area with a nice clear sky, did tow short walks along the way and had breakfast. Before we knew it, the clouds were rolling in, and we finished the drive in the cloud, needless to say, we didn't get much of a view. However, from the sign on the lookout it seems that this would be a fantastic view on a clear day. Hopefully we'll come by this way again some time.

I tried to reach it from The Pinnacle Rd first, but that was tough without preparation. On another occasion I drove there. I real treat.
