Grand Canyon Track

Blue Mountains National Park

“Creeks, waterfalls and spectacular views are just some of the things that make this walk really great.”

Arresting sandstone walls, ever-present waterfalls and abundant native plants line the awesome Grand Canyon track near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. The historic loop track takes you into the heart of this World Heritage-listed landscape. It's an intimate and adventurous track which walkers have trodden since 1907.

Setting out from Evans lookout, the well-shaded track meanders through luscious native vegetation of ferns and golden wattles, and remains close to Greaves Creek, all of which combine to make this a particularly good walk for the summer months. Shorten the loop by leaving a second car at the Evans Lookout Road entrance or spend the day and stop for lunch at the nearby picnic area before returning to the lookout.

Although there are loads of semi-ledges which make up this challenging walk, you don’t need specialist hiking or abseiling equipment, so comfortable walking shoes are all you’ll need to get out there and explore.

So busy during the school holidays. We were lucky that we were able to find a park! For a more enjoyable walk, go during school terms.

Well maintained and almost too curated at the initial parts with landscaping and revegetation plantings, but the majority of the walk is breath-taking nature.

Fantastic walk - one of our favourites in the Blue Mountains. Very well paved the whole way through. But also very popular - go early in the morning or late in the afternoon if you want to avoid the crowds.

Epic is the only way to describe this hike.

Great experience. Will be very special to us as it was our first bush walk ever. Quite surprised to see how kids (8 yrs old) managed to finish this one without any issues.

Fantastic walk, the rivers and waterfalls and ferns are breathtaking, would highly recommend!
Ended up being 8.5km from the car park and back to the same spot, according to Strava and 1 hour 40 mins. Would probably recommend going clockwise although either way you will end with a ton of stairs! Enjoy 😊

Enjoyed this walk

Beautiful. Great contrast to the cliff top walks we'd been doing. Was worried the kids (6 & 8yo) would struggle with the elevation change but they handled it fine. We started with the descent at Evans Lookout and a more gradual climb back to the carpark.

Gorgeous walk. So beautiful from start to finish.

Started at 7:30 AM from Westmead and drove for 1.5 hours and it was misty near Blue mountains. Enjoyed the drive in the pleasant weather. Parked in between Evan's lookout and Neat Gleanes car park and started the hike from Evan's lookout at 9 AM. Did not meet any human during the first 60 minutes. Well laid trial with clear directions. Completed by 10:30 at Neat Gleanes and walked to the car park. Left the place at 11 AM. Good and a moderate hike. Enjoyed it

Did this walk today and it's amazing. But for my unfit self I'd classify it as "hard" with the steps. I would recommend doing the loop in a clockwise direction - almost everyone I saw was going anti-clock wise but the descent/ascent at the Evans lookout end is steeper and would be more punishing on tired legs. Lots of photo opportunities and you'd definitely get wet feet in rainier times with all the creek crossings and ledges.

Beautiful. An amazing walk through the canyon with mosses, waterfalls, caves and creeks. This one has quite a few stairs but it's worth.

Absolutely beautiful. Loved walking beneath the waterfalls.
