    Purlingbrook Falls

     (Springbrook National Park - 4km)
  • 28 Dec, 2011

    Mt Ngun Ngun

     (Sunshine Coast - 1.5km)
Very simple, even with someone who doesn't normally hike we finished it in under an hour with a very long break

    Booloumba Creek to Mount Allan

     (Conondale National Park - 11km)
Cloudy and humid day, but still a reasonably good view from the top of the tower. The water was higher than normal, so we had to park outside the park and walk down the 4wd track, getting wet a few times. Returned via the extra trail to day use area #1 where the creek crossing was well under water. Our feet spent most of the day wet and there were quite a few leeches, but still a good walk to the tower which really got the heart rate pumping with it's constant uphill.

    Ships Stern Circuit

     (Binna Burra - 19km)
Did all of the side walks for the first half, but then the rain kicked in and made us hurry. The track condition is great, I just was confused when the track split in two for the "western lookouts" and "eastern lookouts" part, so we stuck to Eastern. Next time I guess I'll check out Western

    Poets Rock

     (Karawatha Forest - 4km)
I did this after doing the Rocks Circuit. Not as good of a view, but the woodland is a bit more wild and closed in.

    Mt Mitchell

(Main Range National Park - 10.98km)
A great and easy walk! And so empty, only passed 2 other groups. 3 fit guys did it in under 2 hours easily, although that's not including the hour we spent on the summit trying to fly a kite.

Amazing views on a chill autumn's morning.

South East Ridge Ascent Peasants Ridge Descent

(Mt Barney National Park - 17km)
ANZAC Day hike saw it quite busy. And wet.

We got lost at the first main scramble, spent about an hour trying to find a path before we remembered/realized that you had to go up the crack in the ridge. The weather was cloudy and lots of little spurts of rain, made the second/smooth rock scramble quite difficult. Luckily with 5 of us in the group we could boost and pull everyone up. Next time though, I'm definitely taking at least 10 metres of rope to help.

I saw a lot of people descending via South East Ridge, which I've never tried of before. But they seemed to think it was easier.

When we did make it to the top, clouds were rapidly rolling in, making the descent to Rum Jungle a blind one in the white out. Bumped into a few other hikers in the same situation and we all ended up quite north of rum jungle and had to climb back up.

With all of our setbacks we finished the last 5 kms of the hike in pitch black. It was quite the ANZAC Day adventure. For anyone who has never done this before, make sure you are plenty prepared and have lots of extra supplies. If we hadn't the previous experience on this hike (3 newbies, but 2 people who had done it multiple times before) it could have ended quite badly.

    Morelia Track

     (Manorina National Park - 6km)
Very overgrown, probably due to the recent rain and such. The views were quite obstructed and the track had me weaving through long grass and around lots of hanging branches

    Bare Rock + Morgan's Walk

(Main Range National Park - 13km)
Budget some extra driving time and be ready not to find a park after the major storm/flood damage.

The walk was great, although very cloudy until the way back and lots of snakes and leeches around. I agree with the others that you don't need to do the Morgan's Walk.
