(Main Range National Park)
Mt Cordeaux forms the Northern side of Cunningham's Gap. The track ends at a platform just below the main peak and is ideal for viewing South, down the length of Main Range National Park. There are also good views of the Moogerah Peaks, Mt Barney and North to the Mistake Mountains.
Distance:
6.8km
Duration:
2.5 hours
Difficulty:
Medium
Getting there
From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway towards Cunningham's Gap. At the top of the gap turn right into a carpark adjoining the highway. The Mt Mitchell track leaves on the opposite side of the road, so take care when crossing!
Maps
The track is clearly marked so no map is required, however the Sunmap Cunninghams Gap sheet covers the area.
Further Walks
The Mt Cordeaux track continues on to Bare Rock/Morgan's Walk and is worth the effort if you have the time.

Good walk, excellent views.

Track was all cleared up (after previous comments) including through to Bare Rock (didn't do Morgan's Walk).
View from Bare Rock was MUCH better than I remember, but then last time it was covered in fog so that's probably why. If you make it to Mt Cordeaux it's definitely worth the extra distance to Bare Rock.

Perfect weather during this walk. No obstacles encountered. The path to Bald Rock was a bit overgrown.

This morning headed up to Cunninghams Gap. Rope attached to backpack. As we progressed further up the track it was apparent that there had NOT been anyone from NPWS along the track. (Bizzare considering the Rangers Station is just past the crest carpark !!!?????) Small to Medium sized trees still lay across the track as well as plenty of vines from the last time I was up there.
We came across the fallen tree and canopy again. Time to break out the rope. I climbed up with the rope, attached it and everyone from my party proceeded to climb up. I fear before long if the NPWS doesn't clean up this corner the track will soon change course.
Along the way the track is wet so be careful while walking as the rocks/ stones can be very slippery. Don't forget to walk within sight of each other.
From the Gold mine onwards the wind is extremely strong. Watch out on the cliffside. It is, as always a great little walk to go on. Good prep for Mt. Mitchell. And due to the rain and strong wind we didn't go any further.
Hopefully before I come back to Mt. Cordeaux the fallen tree canopy is cleaned up. But just incase i'll be ready.... Today it has rained on both sides of Cunninghams Gap. Great to see the peaks covered in cloud ! What a sight.
Another day.....Another walk.....

Walked this track just after plenty of rain. The walk was magic the mountains streams were flowing very well. Some rocks across the track and half way along a large tree has fallen across the track. People have started to cut the track to walk around it.
The most amazing views with the clouds racing up the main range and the peak of Mt. Mitchell splitting clouds in half.

Wonderful views at the top and a bit history to catch up on along the way. An easy walk so why not carry on to Bare Rock

It was overcast and cool, otherwise perfect day.
Sometime...
This walk is very enjoyable, clearly marked track, can be soft on the edges at times, very comfortable in the summer time as you meander up with a great view at the top.Be carefull at the lookout though in windy conditions.
