Bare Rock + Morgan's Walk

 (Main Range National Park)

Bare Rock is a minor peak North of Cunningham's Gap with great views towards the Mistake Mountains.

Distance:

13km

Duration:

4.5 hours

Difficulty:

Medium

Getting there

From Brisbane follow the Cunningham Highway towards Cunningham's Gap. At the top of the gap turn right into a carpark adjoining the highway. Follow the Mt Cordeaux track which leaves from the edge of the carpark.

Maps

The track is clearly marked so no map is required, however the Sunmap Cunninghams Gap sheet covers the area.

Route/Trail notes

The Bare Rocktrack turns off just before the Mt Cordeaux lookout. Follow the track as it passes through a saddle and into the rainforest. Morgan's Walk leaves the main track 680m short of Bare Rock and visits a grove of Montane Heath

Didn't do the 700m Morgans walk, only ends in a tree grove of some sort. Good views from Bare Rock.

Started early to get everything done today. We walked up to Mt Cordeaux and had a meal break and met so many wonderful and interesting people from the single walker to a group of Elderly walkers and couples. Having chats along the way and sharing information about backpacks and equipment and just admiring the wonderful views together.

Track to Mt Cordeaux has been cleaned up. from Cordeaux to Morgans Lookout is good most of the lookout has trees blocking the views but there are 2 good spots where you can get some good pictures.

Morgans to Bare Rock seem longer than what they are posted but we did the walk no problems. Also found the survey marker on Bare Rock.

All I have to say from there is "WOW"

Another day....Another walk....

Great views although there was a couple really wild at Bare Rock! well worth the walk. Best done in morning during summer.

Fantastic views make this walk worth the effort. Stand in wonder whilst looking at the Gold Mine shaft, just how determined were these miners. One of the few walks almost competely in the shade.
Add the Palm Gully circuit as a warm down.
